Southlit Supplement

As from 2015, Southlit has been combined with its far larger sister publication, Eastlit. Southlit Supplement will be published in each issue of Eastlit.

This exposes our South Asian contributors to a far greater readership than we could offer through Southlit alone. It also means the obvious cultural connections across East, Southeast and South Asia remain connected rather than split. However, to acknowledge its unique beginning, the South Asian work will be in a special Southlit Supplement included in each issue of Eastlit. This supplement will have its own slightly different look and feel to the rest of the Eastlit production.

Head over to Eastlit and take a look at the Southlit Supplement in the current or recent issues of Eastlit. See what you think.

In the meantime, the Southlit site will continue to be supported and hosted, so that no work is ever lost.

I hope that our readers and contributors continue to support us in our aim of supporting work focused on Asia and especially the work of new local talents.

Cheers.

Graham

South Asian Creative Writing

Southlit: Journal of literature and artwork focused on South Asia. Picture: Marghala Hills Islamabad by Dave HopkinsThe first issue of Southlit will be out on July 15, 2014.  Southlit will be a sister journal to Eastlit the successful online journal of creative writing and artwork focused on East and South East Asia. Southlit though will concentrate on South Asian creative writing and artwork.

South Asian creative writing now already holds a place amongst the most important literature worldwide. There are also a myriad of journals dedicated to South Asian literature. However, there still remain a multitude of talented writers of South Asian creative writing who remain unnoticed across the the region. adopting the missions of Eastlit, Southlit will concentrate on providing a platform for the creative writing and artwork of these unknown writers, poets and artists as well as already published and even famous ones. Following on from the Eastlit goals, Southlit will aim to publish several previously unpublished writers in each issue.

We already have a nice and large selection of submissions of South Asian creative writing for the first issue. However, we are still taking submissions for both this first issue of Southlit and for later issues. If you want to submit work, take a look at our submissions page. Please also do share this information if you know others who may be interested.

So following on in the traditions of great authors and poets of South Asian creative writing, and also the traditions of Eastlit, we hope that we can we can bring a varied and interesting selection of works from across the region.

Having said this mostly about South Asian creative writing, we also want to mention artwork. Southlit like Eastlit recognizes the complimentary connections between art forms. As such we also hope to be able to bring our readers an interesting and varied selction of artwork focusing on the region of South Asia.

Cheers.

South Asian Literature: Southlit’s Aim

Southlit: South Asian literature and art journal. Picture by Dave Hopkins. Our aim in publishing South Asian literature and art is to bring you an interesting and varied collection. This will consist of creative writing, literature and art focused on South Asia. We hope to bring you a mix of work from both previously published and unpublished writers.

Southlit, as some of you may be aware, is a sister journal to Eastlit. Eastlit journal of creative writing, English literature and art focuses on East Asia and South East Asia. Over the past year and a half of publsihing Eastlit, we have found an increasing interest from South Asia. There are obvious cultural connections between South Asian Literature and art and that of East and South East Asia. But we felt that it was time for South Asia to have its own journal. This way we hope to publish more writers, and highlight more artists. The aim is to have a readership reading both journals. To achieve this Southlit: South Asian literature and art journal will be published on the 15th of months. Eastlit will continue to be published on the 1st. At this stage whether Southlit is a monthly, bimonthly or quarterly publication has not been decided. However, the aim is to become a monthly journal as soon as possible. When submissions and interest reach a level to support this Southlit will be monthly!

Southlit journal of South Asian literature and art has its own FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter pages. You can follow us on them to get updates if you want. Just click on the links. You can also click on the buttons at the bottom of the page. We will update you with what is happening regularly.

The first issue will appear on the site in the middle of this year. We are working on East Asia time, so for most it should be up when you wake up.
